used for tracking. UPC stands for Universal Product Code, it is the OG of retail barcodes that is been around since the 1970s.
What the 12 digits actually mean?
A standard UPC-A (the most common kind) looks like this:
1 (first digit) -> "Number system"
0 = regular grocery item
2 = stuff weighed at the store (deli meat, produce)
3 = pharmaceuticals
